Female Soviet Snipers and the Marvelous Land of Oz

I've previously written about using miniatures/wargaming in the Wonderful Land of Oz.  So far I've only  managed to cover some of the movies (The Wizard of Oz, Oz: The Great and Powerful, as well as Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns).

Since we've moved into the new house, I've also made it a nighttime routine with my eldest daughter, Maja, to read a chapter from the actual books.  We just happened to finish The Marvelous Land of Oz and while I try to compile and research, I really hit a major snag with two organizations:  General Jinjur's Army of Revolt and Glinda the Good's Army of the South Country.

The uniforms for both armies are well detailed in the book, the troubling issue I have is that both armies are totally comprised of girls.    Don't get me wrong, I love the storylines, but the issue is, how many companies make 25mm minis of women dressed like this:

I did find a few female "historical" minis, but these are a bit unflattering (i.e. way too much T&A for any game, much less one based in Oz).

I would easily accept the WW2 female Soviet uniform, if someone manufactured them.  I'd even change the guns to spears or knitting needles, depending on the army.

  1. Have you looked at the female Hussars from Hinderland Minuatures?
    They might be useable.
Also, thanks for the ideas for Oz mini sources!

  2. Thanks! I did post something about Hinterlands a bit past the date on this post, and they will display prominently in my breakdown for the Marvelous Land of Oz.
