Kickstarter: Pacific War

After begrudgingly promoting the FASA 1879 Kickstarter for its poorly conceived grandiose ambition for a niche corner of a niche hobby, I present to you a Kickstarter that looks well thought out and properly presented: Matchlock Miniatures' present The Pacific War.

No, not the War in the Pacific, with island hopping and kamikazes. The Pacific War was a Latin American conflict between Chile, Peru, and Bolivia between 1879 and 1884.

I'm a sucker for lesser known wars, like the Chacko War between the World Wars, so a company willing to venture out in this direction deserves my mention, at least. But it's the practicality of the endeavor that impresses me the most.

First off, they openly admit that their using Kickstarter to not simply raise the the funds, but to gauge interest. They have numerous requests/ideas for more obscure miniature ranges, but it's smarter to put out the feelers, measure the response, especially if it doesn't meet the base goal of £5,000. If it fails miserably, it may never see the light of day, just missing the mark, and we may see this line in a smaller scale (production, not mm).

Second, although they don't have sample sculpts up, they do have two sculptors pegged for the task, with a backup in the wings. It creates an appearance of competence to new customers and a dedication to the deadlines.

Third, international shipping options have already been calculated. I'm tired of seeing projects in limbo for weeks over shipping overseas. It's even better that they offer free worldwide shipping!
