Day 7 of #RPGaDay and the internet gods provide "Journey" as the basic prompt.
I've got to admit, I'm normally a travel by map type of GM. At best, a few developing details, the mandatory encounter or two, and that's it. Perhaps I've been derailed enough sessions with a low level parties fleeing for their lives from Swack-Iron Dragons that showed up in our Hackmaster game.
In my current Gamma World 4th Edition game, I've got two players that are primarily wargamers, although one has a war-, board- and roleplaying-game penchant for Tekumel.
While the other players are accustomed to my style, they were the players insisting galactic maps at the ready for Star Wars d6, they still kept the basic map for Gulluvia nearby in our D&D game, and they began requesting on session 2 of Gamma World for a map of the area. I gave them a map a few sessions later, and they finally got this map of the "Big River" during session #16 of the campaign.
We're currently at session #109 of the campaign. Let's assume 8-mile hexes, and the heroes base of operations is Riverbend (west of "Dominion of Riverbend").Truth be told, the campaign is meant to be exploratory ... low-powered, and slow in nature. They're invested with the Restorationists in Riverbend, most of them are beloved in some way or another in Fair-Town, and despite their technological innovation, KIA Academy is giving them the icks.... plus they've seen the Magi, and a very scary army of the Ancients from afar, so they're aware of the outside world... and that it's coming for them, eventually.
