An Apology from Gaming with the Gnomies

Looks like everyone had a blast at Historicon, and I'm still analyzing all the data before making an informed judgement on the fate of Fredericksburg, et al.

First, a humble request.  If you snagged the Gnome Wars new releases, I'd gratefully appreciate a few pics of them to put on the blog for the world at large.

One thing that was brought to my attention (thanks herzogbrian!) was that the resolution of the pics on my blog posts are horrendous.  Now, I could throw my veteran con correspondent, Mike Lung, under the bus, but I won't.  He was nice enough to send me pics to begin with, and it's the first free product/service ever offered  to my blog.

Two possible issues:
1.  All the pics sent were taken with an iPhone and emailed to me at 150K a person.  A wee bit small, but I'm not paying for his data plan (I guess I could, but that involves ads on the blog and a frenzied fan base...I'm working on that).
2.  Dummy that I am, I used the Blogger iPhone app to upload the pics, and the showed up ever smaller (sub-75k in many cases).  D'oh!

Regardless of what happened, I'm in the process of resizing those pics already posted. Thursday's is done and I'm working on the rest.

Sorry for the time machine back to 1999.

  1. Thanks Eric for placating us with resizing the photos, many thanks.

I would be interested in hearing about the possibility of getting my hand son some Wild Geese. They are in my mind the best thing since slice bread.

As soon as I receive the Russians I'll get photos up.

    Thanks again,

    Helen

  2. Thanks Helen!

Mike can confirm the manufacturer of the geese, as well as any minor modifications (if any) he needed to make for the conversion. From the pics alone, they were an intimidating sight on the table!

  3. Hi Helen,

Glad you liked the geese. They were a conversion I did using Brigade's Gnome Wars Leprechaun riders and toy geese made by Schleich and Safari LTD. I think the Safari ones are retired and getting a bit harder to find. But the ones by Schleich should be pretty easy to find.

For the Geese I added saddles and harnesses sculpted using Procreate. For the riders, I cut off their weapons, drilled holes in their hands and inserted lances I made out of wire. (the tips of the wire were flattend by a hammer and then trimmed to give them a pointed spearlike shape.) For the commander, I gave him a sword in one hand and made the other hand hold the reigns. So I had to rebuild his arms and hands out of Procreate. His sword was made out of flattened wire.

    Hope that helps.

    Mike

  5. Thank you very much Mike and Brian. Lovely work guys and thank you very much. Can't wait to do some conversions on the Irish Wild Geese. Brian the Orange-men will no look the part.

Can't wait to see the princesses. My Gnomes are going out the door to folks who love the gnomes.

    Cheers guys,

    Helen

  7. Sorry Brian my bad! Geese ordered for my Wild Geese. I'm looking at Romans invading the Land of the Irish.

    Thank you,

  8. The parcel from Lon arrived just a minute ago. The Russian Gnomes are lovely. The officer with sabre, NCO with Partisan (nicely decorated) and grenadier throwing molotov cocktail.

Now I can do hunt the Green Dragon with my St George battalion. Nice work all round, thanks.

I was thinking about what a caveman gnome could ride and the Dodo bird comes to mind.

    Cheers,

    Helen

  9. Hi Helen,

I'm a big fan of using dodos, too. I actually had my gnome cannibals (cannombals) riding Dodos...or birds that started off as dodos. For the gnomo sapiens, sabre-toothed cats, Gallimimus/Velociraptors, Flintstone like cars, and of course wooly mammoths also come to mind. Lots and lots of other choices, too.

  10. Thanks Mike, your gnome cannombals sound just the ticket for this genre. I've managed to purchase six Safari Ltd geese and the remainder plus from Schleich. Was there only one type of geese from Safari Ltd?

The additional geese left over will be used for pulling wagons etc.

    Cheers,

    Helen

  11. Hi Helen,

Yes, I used only 1 type of goose from Safari and two types of geese from Schleich. The Schleich are a bit nicer sculpts except for the grass between the legs. But they all go well with each other scalewise and the Safari ones have their beaks open which adds some variety. Best of luck!

  12. Thanks Mike for the reply. Excellent news on both ranges and this will allow for variety.

    Cheers,

    Helen
