Gnomes, the Game! by Gydran Studios

With the massive influx of #ZineQuest Kickstarters to start the month, I fell behind on some interesting news:  Gydran Studios releasing Gnomes, the Game!

A game of small stature, but great scope! Gnomes is a miniatures based “table top” game where you fight and scavenge for your Gnomes notoriety and the Hold.

Gnomes is a small-scale skirmish game between opposing Gnomish holds. As a player you take control of a troupe of Gnomes vying against each other for resources to take back to their kin, for the might of the hold. There are Gnomes with varying types of equipment that you have to use to help you come out victorious.

The core game comes with enough Gnome miniatures to field two Gnome Troupes.

The boxed game contains the following:2x Gnome Troupes consisting of 3x Scavengers, 1x Specialist: Grenadier, 1x Heavy Specialist: Candyfloss-thrower. !0 miniatures in total.
  • 10x 30mm bases
  • 1x Rulebook
  • 10x Gnome cards
  • 36x Red health tokens
  • 20x Yellow resources tokens
  • 6x Cardboard resource objective markers
  • 6x White stunned tokens
  • 1x Star of Leadership token
  • 1x Red D10
  • 1x Green D10
  • 1x Cardboard Storage box
Only the models mentioned in the description are offered, any other models or scenery in the picture are not included.

This game is NOT a board game. Gnomes is a “table top” war game. The miniatures in the box are are cast in polyurethane resin and require some clean-up and/or assembly before you can play the game. You may want to wash the resin miniatures in warm soapy watery before playing or painting to remove any mould release. If or when sanding, drilling or cutting resin items please wear a dust mask and work in a well ventilated area as resin particulates can be bad for your health.

Models are supplied unpainted and require some clean-up and assembly before painting/use.

It is roughly US$60 with shipping from the UK.   The game isn't on by purchase plan right now (honesty very little is), but I would be more interested if units/squad are available.

Letters to the Stars is a solo-RPG involving one or more players about deep space adventures.

This one is a little pricier, $15 for the PDF and $25 for a physical copy, but WM Akers has produced the Deadball series of games, and quality and delivery are high.

(Kickstarter) #ZineQuest2024 - 1d100 Interstellar Encounters by Terry Herc

#ZineQuest2024 is more than quirky rulebook and adventures.  Sometimes it's just lists and charts worth a couple of bucks to the right people.

1d100 Interstellar Encounters is in the latter category.

From the Kickstarter:
Designed to be adaptable, these encounters can seamlessly integrate into your favorite sci-fi RPG system, be it a gritty cyberpunk setting or a grand space opera. Each encounter is thoughtfully crafted to provide depth, offering potential plot hooks, cosmic threats, and unexpected twists that will elevate your campaign. Whether you're in need of a quick side quest, a main storyline, or just want to add flavor to your universe, this zine is your go-to resource.

Multiple options to pledge for this one.  PDFs start at $5, Physical at $16, and the PDF MegaBundle with their other d100 lists is intriguing at $23.

RIP Carl Weathers

I was eating dinner last night when the news of Carl Weather's death hit the wire.  When the first name of the last major character he played was Greef (sic), I suppose it's right and fitting that this one makes me a bit upset.

He's not on the 70's/80's action movie Mount Rushmore, but no other actor can lay claim to Rocky, Force 10 from Navarone, Predator, Toy Story, and three separate roles in the Adam Sandler movie "empire." And let's not forget, his own movie, Action Jackson, which stuck in the late 80's HBO rotation for me. His television credits alone, both one-offs, and series regulars are impressive enough for a football player turned actor, but then he has to go and become a Star Wars character on The Mandalorian?    So long as they don't nuke Nevarro in the Mando movie, he can remain part of the ongoing Star Wars canon forever.

In honor of the man's passing, I found Star Wars d6 stats for Greef Karga here, They are up-to-date for the end of season one.
