The casual reader of this monthly post going over the new releases, as be Alliance Game Distribution, might ask, "Viscount Eric, why don't you list everything/omit some things in your imaginary store list. It's quite simple.
- No Price - The "PI" (Please Inquire) in Game Trade usually means a smaller price discount and sometimes significant less profit than other items. For books, it usually means special orders only. PI is also used for some companies for things like CCG sleeves and accessories. I remember the gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands when the first Ultra Pro Deck Protectors came out and were a huge outlay for minimal profit. Nowadays the complaining is too many options and excess inventory (or single packs and no opportunity to reorder.)
- Things with prices are just ridiculous. Twenty dollar single 25mm figures, $80 board games that tell nothing in the description, $12 plain old dice bags are not worthy my minimal promotion.
- I don't stock everything in my imaginary store. It's imaginary, not limitless! I've reviewed pre-orders as a casual hobbyist for decades, and although the only money I stand to lose is mine on a pre-order, I've watched enough lines get promoted in solicitation and collapse within weeks. I'd rather order an extra copy of a book, or more Magic boosters. Than hundreds into an unproven line without a clear plan of promotion.
