There are still two tournaments left in Maja's AAU season, but this will be the final rant.
Because THIS happened.
Both Maja (10th) and Millie (8th) had been invited to play on their high school's Varsity/JV summer camp team at Kutztown University. Seeing that Maja had been asked to only play JV summer ball "when needed" and Millie's had a full slate of JV games, with one trip down to junior high ball to bolster the roster.God help Berks County getting the two of them for a week.
Millie's week was punctuated by high praise from the varsity coach for her vision on the court, and high basketball IQ. Maja's was a little different.
First off, she didn't see any Varsity time this summer, unlike last year, where the combined Varsity/JV played the Varsity schedule. She spent all her time down in JV. ALL.... Like 36 out of 36 minutes of gameplay, twice a day.
Maja's finest play came during the second game of the first day (Sunday). With a little point guard on the opposition driving to the basketball, Maja pulled her best white girl Dikembe Mutombo impression, leaping in the air, and swatting the ball into the bleachers, sending the poor girl flying backwards on her butt. No foul.
Two or three hours, Maja felt discomfort in her wrist, accelerating into full-out pain by dinner. A trip to the trainer, some Tylenol, and a pile of ice, she fell asleep... and proceeded to play almost the entirety of the NEXT SEVEN GAMES. With a wrapped up hand... in pain.
Upon returning to camp, and an appointment at Ortho, Maja is the proud owner of an avulsion fracture of her wrist. Her tendon pulled off the bone and fractured it.
She truly doesn't know her own strength.
This sidelines her for the final two tournaments, including the four-day SEVEN game tournament currently going on as this gets posted. The team's loaded, so they should do extremely well.
Millie's more disappointed there's no beach for back-to-back weekends.
Oh yeah, this happened to Millie under her mother's supervision...
