(Kickstarter) Women of WW2: Soviet Russia by Bad Squiddo Games

Bad Squiddo Games is renowned for their high quality female miniatures, so it's no surprise that they would want to expand their existing WW2 Soviet range with the Women of WW2: Soviet Russia Kickstarter.

Existing Soviets are also available through the Kickstarter at regular price, as well as their line of scenics.

I'm not a big WW2 fan, and the few figures that interest me are better justified down the road at a con for one of their distributors, say Badger Games.  It is, however, weekend that Cold Wars was supposed to occur, so I might either peruse the rest of the Bad Squiddo website and place an order from the other lines.

Nerud the Bounty Hunter... Statted Out!

The Kickstarter for Raybox Games' Legions of Steel Classic Alien Races Miniatures is tentatively slated for May 3rd.  Besides that chance to get some of the awesome Black Empire, Fantasian, and Infranite models that have been out of production for decades, it is also an opportunity to get the ever elusive Nerud the Bounty Hunter.

Except that's not their name!   Despite swearing up and down that the figure was listed in the catalogs like it was their name, it's their race.  I remember the Galactics being the baddest of the alien races, but bounty hunters (and regular hunters) are Nerudii, so it should be "Bob", the Nerud Bounty Hunter.  I stand corrected.

Raybox has provided stats and background for their figure, but also a size comparison with a Classic UNE Trooper.

Holy Crap, 70mm is very impressive, and absolutely terrifying for the "regular folk" being hunted by them.

(Planet 28) The Crew of the Placidity

I continue with statting out characters and warbands for Planet 28 with the first five members of  "The Crew" from Battle Valor Games.  I'm not a hardcore fan of the show or movie, and the traits and abilities don't match up as well as they would in, say GURPS, but I think they're accurate (and able to handle a few, but not many, "Space Cannibals" (also available through Battle Valor.

For a few games of playing *pew-pew* with BattleDroids, Blue Martians, and entry-level Planetary Defense Gnomes, they're a good start.  There's got to be room for all the legendary bad-asses in the galaxy.

(BECMI) Adventures in Gulluvia #18 - Suzie and the BearOwl

18 Jun 534 - Village of Mere, Barony of Gulluvia
After the burial of Brother Barry Manaslow, the party made acquaintance with the last friend Barry ever made, Suzie, a 15-year old girl, turned acolyte of the Church.  She had found the dying man's stories captivating, although she had trouble recollecting all of them.
Suzie, Church Acolyte
The mourning ultimately turned to drinking at the inn, and Suzie continued telling poor versions of Barry's "war tales,"  much to the chagrin of the some of the war veterans drinking there.  The party had little to protect her, but Carya, the large merchant caravan organizer took a liking to her and dispatched the complainers to another site.

19 Jun 534 - Village of Mere, Barony of Gulluvia
After a quick morning patrol/walk, the party took notice to the clamor at the inn.  It was not waffle day, rather the gruesome attack of one of the farmer's cows by what was rumored to be a vicious BearOwl!

It was determined quickly that the party would do some scouting in the last known location of the beast.

22 Jun 534 - The Abandoned Village of Cillamar
Three days of travel and the party had been unmolested by trouble.   The ultimately found the foundations of a long-abandoned village.  Some further searching found a small obelisk and the even further searching found the secret door, which wildly swung inward, forcing Suzie to tumble down a set of stairs.

Underneath the obelisk was a short series of rooms.  The group made quick work some albino goblinoids with chilling touch before discovering another stairwell and a remains of a bridge that once crossed a chasm.

25 Jun 534 - Village of Mere, Barony of Gulluvia
With no sign of the BearOwl, and no easy way to traverse the chasm.. or climb down it, the party returned home, beat up but slightly wiser.

GM Notes:  A quick look at DCC #51.5 - The Sinister Secret of Whiterock for Goodman Games.   I may tie in the chasm later on, but for now the risk/reward ratio was simply not there for Neutral Greedy Hugo and the others agreed.

For now there is no Episode #19 of Gulluvia.  With Nate's (Slothina) disappearance from the group, and the addition of Jim "The Gnome King," the group stopped D&D and 90's Canadian Cthulhu and focused on something different.  Gulluvia is by no means finished (I think we're only a third of the way there, we've set up the most basic storyline.

The new Actual Play will start up in about a month and run for quite some time.  No major announcement (I've talked about it in other posts over the last few months), but I'll give a small one-word hint.
Regular Actual Plays return on May the 4th!

(Kickstarter) Zombies! 20th Anniversary Edition Plus Museum of Weird by Twilight Creatons

Zombies! has been out for twenty years.  It feels even longer (and that's a good thing), but it's not a surprise then that Twilight Creations has launched a Kickstarter, not only for the 20th Anniversary Edition of the game, but a new expansion, the Museum of Weird.

The new edition of the game improves upon previous versions, with thicker tiles, 3-D Hearts and Bullets, and a wide assortment of zombie figures to run amok.

(SAVAGE MICE) #4 - Attack of the Peeps

Our annual Easter game is usually one of the games of the year.  I have an back catalog of ideas I've "borrowed" from other players, as well as a handful of scenario I'd like to "candy coat."

When I realized the a big floor game wasn't an option this year, and learning new sci-fi rules wasn't going to work, I turned to some old reliables:  Mouslings, Savage Showdown, and the Just Born company.

For the Swiss village of Zuckerangriff, Easter is a much celebrated holiday.  Baskets of eggs and confections dominated what's largely a celebration of Spring.  It's so beloved that even the village Donut shop closes for one day, and they stay open for Jul!
Zuckerangriff.  The rich gnomes live on the other side of the river.

Rumors of distress within the town trickled out to the countryside, and two groups heeded the call.

The Snakes:  A group of Mousling bandits, led by the brute Wakanda, these folks were as likely to the pillage the village as they were to save it.
The Snakes, with "heroes" Pinky and Wakanda (center)
The Merry Mice:  The Mouslings, led by the dashing Robin Mouse, were likely to get distracted in the middle of a project, but their heart was in the right place.
Merry Mouse 1, Friar Buck, Robin Mouse, Mouse Marien, Merry Mouse 2

Rules:  The big objective (saving the wounded Gnome in the center of town) was worth 5 points.

This will end poorly for the Gnome
The other objectives were worth 3 points.  All objectives were hazardous, meaning failure to acquire them would result in one wound to the attempting figure.
The wrong day to come into market

It's Terrapin Terrorism!

A Wildchild among Mouslings
Saving Gnomes:  The gnomes in this village aren't too smart, and refuse to fall for the "fake news" of another monster attack (They had a problem with wolf attacks awhile ago.)  Mouslings could encounter Gnome figure on the board and treat them as an objective.  Success meant the Gnome was coerced to leave or hide in their homes, and earned the warband one point.

Turn One:  A Joker was immediately pulled by Robin Mouse granting him a Bennie and some bonuses, but also unleashing the remaining pack of Cotton Candy Peeps, coming from all directions (Peeps do come in packs).
Miss Pumpkin Farmer: That's the sound of inevitability that you hear behind you.
Turn Two:  Robin Mouse attempted to communicate with the strange, almost hedgehog-looking Mousling.  The Wildchild Mousling did not appreciate Robin's approach, and a boomerang hit the Merry Mouse upside the head.  The leader needed to burn through his two Bennies to rereoll the encounter (still a failure) and soak the subsequent wound.

Meanwhile, Mouse Marien was taking business into her own hands, firing deadly accurate arrows at the Peeps' one weak spot:  their vestigial eyes.  The beast died instantly.
On the other side of town, it was obvious that the Snakes were not there out of complete altruism.
"How you doin?"
The Snakes ignored the nearby cries of Gnomes in distress, saved a few lovely Gnome ladies, but otherwise travelled in a pack for defense.

Turn Three:
Friar Buck and two of the Merry Mice swept through there corner of the village, saving a few Gnomes.

Robin Mouse was again wounded by the deranged boomeranger.

The Snakes?  They were checking out the Donut Shop, only saving an NPC that forget it was a Gnome holiday.

Turn Four:
The locals secured, Friar Buck went after the marauding Peeps, acing his rolls, and easily chopping through the Sucrose carapace armor of one of the monsters.  The Merry Mice in two were but a step behind.
Friar Buck takes a piece out of the Peep.
Mouse Marien came back to save her beloved (and twice incompetent) Robin.  She came up behind the Wildchild and hit them in the back of the head.  The tiny Mousling seemed like a bigger threat than the Peeps!
Mary Hood waylays the Wildchild
Turn Five:
Robin Mouse gained his senses, then peered across town to see the scourge of Mouse-kind, Wakanda.  For a moment, he drew his bow to take aim at the bandit-lord, but he couldn't go through with it.
His Merry Mice were much braver, charging into another rabid Cotton Candy Peep and killing it. Unfortunately, another Peep was nearby and the Mouslings weren't as lucky.    Friar Buck had to step in and kill that beast to recover the bodies, rather than officially rescue the nearby  turtle.
The Merry Mice take out one Peep,
Turn Six:  While the south end of the village was contained.  The center of town by the bridge was pandemonium.  The Snakes' refusal to help allowed the Peeps to take control of the area and feast on some of the clueless individuals, including the wounded gnome and the Pumpkin farmer.   The Pig Cart would be eventually intercepted by the Snakes and taken as plunder.
With both players ignoring the bridge, the downtown is lost.
End of Game:  Merry Mice 7  Snakes 3

My daughter Maja (age 12) runs the Snakes and each session she intentionally goes after objectives that would help her warband.  It's a "It's what my character would do" thinking that works out better in a games like Mordheim or possibly zombie survival.

Millie (age 10) still wants more wild fun, but her Merry Mice performed admirably yet again.

I'm still planning on that sci-fi Easter-themed game for this year, using Planet 28.  Possibly Orthodox Easter?

The original inspiration for the scenario came from The Realm of Jinnai: Battle Report: The ALIEN.  Peeps are the mid-ground between Genestealers and Shoggoths, I guess.

First Day of Fishing in Pennsylvania... and Other Parts of the Galaxy

Technically there were a slew of folks fishing along local creeks over the Easter weekend.  I'm not even a fisherman (or hunter), but I appreciated the old standards that kept schools closed an extra day or two, to avoid rampant absenteeism. Stay off my lawn (and my blue krill ponds!)
