Gen Con 2020 has been canceled, event organizers announced Tuesday in an open letter to supporters.
"It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the cancellation of Gen Con 2020 this August in Indianapolis," the statement said. "The safety and health of our attendees, exhibitors, and staff are of the utmost importance to us, and we cannot in good conscience host a gathering of thousands while doing so could threaten the health of so many."
Excerpt from the Indy Star(Update): We all knew it was going to happen, even with the improving conditions in the hardest hit spots in the country. Gen Con is normally a petri dish of viruses that make up the dreaded con crud. On a healthy year, it might be a good idea for the Indiana Department of Health to track attendees and see what everybody has coming in and contracts going out of Indy.
The good news is it appears that the organizers have come to terms with a contract extension for the sight for two additional years.
