I know I'm the only one that cares about blog stats, but I do love tracking not only the popular current posts, but also the older ones that still have traction.
**Disclaimer: Most of this appears to reasonable web traffic, based on historical trends. I'll mention anything that looks like a bot in Malaysia went wild with hits, but Blogger seems to have screened that type of traffic recently. It doesn't mean I believe I developed new fans in Thailand, it's just that the bot hits generated there are hitting the Gaming with the Gnomies main page, and not specific blog posts**
2023-2024
Outside of the my eventual #1 post, traffic focused on Historicon/HMGS, the passing of HMGS Treasurer Steve Boegemann, and some residual #RPGaDay2024 posts.
2022-2023
2020-2022
2009-2019
I must show up on results for
Zombiesmith's Quar Tanks, because that limited post continues to get hits year-over-year. Some big posts that just missed the Top 10? Some pretty critical actual plays during my run of
Masks of Nylarathotep. I did have to delete a "Pre-Cruise Post" from 2017, that is just some gnome art and a three quick sentences about a family cruise. It was staying in my weekly top ten posts for no good reason.
My Top 10 Popular Posts Outside the Current Year
#10 - New Poll, Hey! Stop Dancing There - Gnome Wars - 2012
#9 - Hunting for Wizard of Oz Minis - Wizard of Oz - 2012
#8 - The Garden State Game Fair Lives On - Conventions - 2012
#5 - Curse of Nevoz #3 - 14 Beers at Chilis - Call of Cthulhu - 2019
#4 - Contemptible Little Armies - Review - 2012
#3 - Old School Kird Ape - Magic - 2015
#2 - Hellboy: The Board Game Expansion - Kickstarter - 2021
#1 - The Games Keep, West Chester - Review - 2024
I suspect more bot traffic this year than in previous ones. I could attribute bot traffic for those ancient 2012 posts, but CLA and the Wizard of Oz are some of my all-time top posts and perennial performers. Heck, Hunting for the Wizard of Oz Minis just became my all-time #1 post this year, and it's been consistent traffic.
Games Keep is getting higher than expected traffic. Nothing I'd raise an eyebrow to if it happened a week or two, but it's shown up in my weekly top ten most weeks. Not enough to kill the post (or re-post and see if traffic settles or flares up again), but I've been watching it.
The Kird Ape deck I posted was solid turn 3 or 4 kill deck. Very expensive nowadays. With nostalgia, and traffic volume, I surprised myself that I'm the #1 result under "Kird Ape Deck" in Google.
Games Keep, Hellboy, and the Kird Ape Posts all cracked my Top 30 all-time posts (out of almost 5400 posts over 16 years).
