With issue #269 of Game Trade Magazine, we moved into the dog days of new game releases. Summer is a downtime for many shops, between customer vacations, college regulars gone till September, but also the lack of new product. It used to be that back in the olden days, manufacturers would build up new releases in August for release at (and to help pay the costs of) GenCon. The internet and Kickstarter in general has waned they way of thinking, but it still doesn't mean it's not partially true.

The one thing I always love is when a FLGS has a section dedicated to mid-to-high-end traditional games. No, not the Monopolies and UNOs, rather the chess sets and backgammon boards , preferably in glass cases. Traditional game manufacturers come and go, but it's nice to see something a step or two above the cardboard board I picked up a few years ago, in Wellsboro, for Maja. I don't think she'll need up upgrade just quite yet.
