You know what's not as exciting as the August solicitations in preparation for the big GenCon releases?
The glut of mid-to-low-range stuff flooding the solicitations post-GenCon.
I won't be gentle, there's a number of gems in this months Game Trade Magazine, but the glut of mediocre games filling up shelf space is not a good thing.
One of the topics of conversation I’ve heard on GenCon reviews was if the board game decline was over, and most saw the mass purchases at GenCon and declared it over. Contrary to popular opinion, I think this glut might be past its apex, and these random companies' time is not long in the industry. Big box retail has cleared out their non-traditional board game section, save the Catans and Ticket to Rides of the world. The purge is coming, and no matter the savings from Chinese manufacturing, it will come and we’ll see some bargains coming this January, from manufacturers all the way to FLGS.
