(Backerkit) City-State of the Invincible Overlord by Goodman Games

So, in a category of "Things Freezing Over,"  Judges Guild is referenced in the crowd-funding business, as Goodman Games is releasing a 5e and Dungeon Crawl Classics version of their City-State of the Invincible Overlord on Backerkit.

There's a lot of rigamarole regarding the Judge's Guild Kickstarter from a decade ago.  Just under 1,000 backer raised $85,000 for a Pathfinder version back then, and I was one of them.

I pledged $1.

For a front row seat to watch Rome burn, because I wasn't sure if they would deliver on the PDF, much less the inordinate amount of stretch goals, add-ons, etc.   At the end I got my dollar's worth watching everything implode, and amazingly they bulk emailed free coupons for twenty files via DriveThruRPG, even to myself and the other dozen dollar pledges.

I'm not sure what some of the 950 who wanted physical rewards were expecting.  Maybe they knew nothing about JG, maybe it was all their first Kickstarter, but I commend Goodman Games, who will funnel the licensing money due to JG for this new Backerkit project to continue to fulfill a decade old refund request.    I have very little sympathy for JG or the backers who expected rainbow and sprinkles. I simply think the opportunity to get a massive update for a classic setting into the modern 5e/DCC setting like Goodman has done with nine other properties is worth promoting.

I'll be honest, I've gotten well more than my dollar's worth with the original PDFs using them for my Gamma World game.
