A TSR (?) to Create a New Version of Star Frontiers

Over 20 years ago, TSR Inc was purchased by Wizards of the Coast and it's entity was absorbed into the behemoth known as WotC.

It's amusing now that there are TWO TSRs vying for the nostalgic hearts of older games, all while WotC sells the old products on DrivethruRPG.com.

One TSR was formed a decade ago, with Gygax family involvement to produce Gygax Magazine and OSR material.  There was a falling out with the Gygaxes and they've since been known to get Merle Rasmussen to write a new edition of Top Secret.

Recently another TSR, with Ernie Gygax as VP, was formed and wisely swooped in to snag the TSR trademark that had lapsed.  They were kind enough to license the name back to TSR #1 (or is it #2?) for a tiny fee.  With that secured, they appear to be releasing Giantlands, a science fantasy RPG, as well as news of producing Star Frontiers material!

I'll let the lawyers figure out who owes what to whom with the disputes, but it's a head in the right direction.

One of the new TSRs (yes there are now two TSRs!) has announced a reboot of Star Frontiers, the sci-fi game made by the original TSR back in the 1980s. Star Frontiers was a percentile dice roleplaying game set in a galaxy with four races (Human, Dralasite, Vrusk, and Yazirian) which were re-used by WotC in d20 Future in 2004.

Happy to announce that in addition to our flagship new world and game system by James M. Ward & Dinehart, GiantLands, and Justin LaNasa's children's RPG Tales & Tots, our next internal project "Star Frontiers", a reboot of the original, is currently in preproduction and has Larry Elmore attached. Stay tuned for more details!

It appears that one of the new TSRs registered the trademark in April. More if I hear it!

You can currently buy the game from WotC on DriveThruRpg, so I'm not sure how that works. When asked about this on Facebook, one of the TSRs answered:
