Day 6 of #RPGaDAY2022 throws a weak question to the masses, "How Would You Get More People Into RPGs?"
To take a quote from the Green Mile out of context, "I'm tired boss."
I've been fighting the good fight for decades, teaching various games to friends, at conventions, and at game stores. It's been a long, slow process, and I'm no longer the demographic game companies are targeting.
Not only do I want to take a break from acting as an RPG missionary and proselytizing amongst the mundanes, I think there are more people than ever far more capable of luring the new players in.
Anyway, we are in a new Golden Age of Role-Playing. I mean, if you can have tens of thousands of folks watch a Critical Role Live Play (and a surprising number of those aren't gamers), then one just needs to find the opportunities and offer your services to help.
Don't Gatekeep: Obviously we don't want to dissuade anyone from playing, but let's be honest, if you can't handle anime-kids enthusiasm, or you're just tired of wizard/magic schools to a group from the Harry Potter book club, I'd recommend "Don't be the Box Office, Be the Usher." Yes, both are technically gates and the people are keeping that spot, but an usher can be a far more helpful person, getting people to the right theatre, to the rest rooms, dealing with the true Gatekeepers. As an usher, you don't have to watch the movie all the time, but you should help them get to a different usher that's into anime-style, or scholastic wizards, even if it's to a game store or an online
