Day 20 of the #CharacterCreationChallenge. You know what I've avoided in my Star Wars d6 campaign, currently on hiatus? Overtly described hot chicks with guns. I've only saved two on the Pinterest Star Wars board, so I might as well stat her up and prep her for whenever the campaign restarts.

(Hackmaster 4th Edition) Conla Vaz - Amazonian Archer - #CharacterCreationChallenge
2nd of 2 daughters (3rd of 4 overall) - all living, special bond with older sister.
Few people know of the lands across the Senzar Sea, even fewer know that the major empires have each established its eastern shore. Most of these folks acknowledge that Wyrmnalian explorers set foot on these lands first, nearly 200 years ago.
What the fewest number of people know is that the Hibernians settled these new lands 100 years prior... on a separate continent over 2,000 miles south of these other colonies. These lost travelers immediately lost contact, but quickly met the Amazons, a fierce women-dominant warrior culture, one which a person of discerning knowledge could see older Senzaran, Kufrik, and Hellene cultural traits.
Conla is a 12th generation Amazon with Hibernian stock. With the Empires continuing to send explorers, despite the tendency of the Amazons to kills them all. It was decided that a special diplomatic missions would be sent to each of the known Empires to establish relations. The expedition to Kufrik was long, but plentiful. The mission to a hostile Senzar was unsuccessful, and their groups to Khemet and Alexandria have not returned after years. Now it is time to reach out to the one empire all know about, the mighty, but distant Hibernian Empire. Of course Conla volunteered to be the envoys personal guard, but no one will be quite prepared, IF they make it, to discover the legendary Hibernians are under the rule of the grandson of Arthur the Great... and not too happy about it, either. When Hackmaster was my game of choice, there was a general effect during character creation that was a long-play, but akin to Dungeon Crawl Classics' funnel. Even with Building Point re-rolls and the guiding hand of the Game Master, some characters were either complete train wrecks, or too "normal." Most of the members on the "Journey of Mutumbo" were quite ordinary, which made sense once a TPK happened. When the next wave were created and we started what was The Burning Trogs Rule! happened, we did have a few extraordinary individuals, similar to Conla, to alleviate the burden. It also helped that the GM didn't send Swack-Iron Dragons at them at every opportunity. Honestly, she's the most kick-ass Hackmaster 4th Edition character I've rolled up, and with some luck, then experience, might join up with some semblance of the Trogs in my dream campaign (The Preludes, not the actual eight episodes, those were a minor nightmare).
And to just clarify my own questions, the Amazons are actually in the South American continent, based off of the Epic of Aerth from Dangerous Journeys, they just aren't anywhere near the actual Amazon River.

(Star Wars d6) #73 - The Rescue on Ruie Begins
The crew of the Pretio risking their lives in This Week's Episode:
Confused, but undaunted, Ne'vets instructed Sid to enter the atmosphere and visually look for signs of life.
The planet itself was quite bucolic, if otherwise unremarkable. There were large swaths of farmland, but no buildings, equipment, and people/droids maintaining them. Any structures they could make out were shed-sized and couldn't hold a speeder bike.
They did encounter actual train tracks and an ancient-looking train, belching smoke as it travelled, but no one thought it a good idea to fly parallel to the tracks and see where they led.
It was finally decided to land in one of the fields, near the tree line, and investigate on foot.
Sid brought the Pretio down for a landing. As the landing gear were deployed a mere ten meters off the ground, an explosion rocked the vessel, sending all the sensors on high alert, the same sensors that had not detected any energy sources seconds before.
Sid immediately performed evasive maneuvers only known to pilots trained to make high speed, rapid ascents out of combat hot spots. As the Pretio did a barrel roll, the internal finally coms lit up with with two messages.
"I'm on fire!!! I'm on fire!!!" followed by "AAAAAAiiiiiiieeeeeeee!!!!!" then silence.
Everyone was immediately accounted for... except Duk'k.
Fighting the Pretio's rapid ascent Ne'vets pulled himself down the hallway to the ladder for the quad laser cupola where Duk'k would normally station himself. Beyond some twisted, burning wreckage was open sky and no sign at all of the Sipsk'ud.
"Sid, do not leave the planet, we've got a breach... and a missing crew member."

(Star Frontiers) Aeya - Yazirian Security - #CharacterCreationChallenge
It's fitting that in the midst of the #CharacterCreationChallenge, I continue to take the last few boxes from the old house, take them to storage, and sort them out. I was missing my Savage Worlds rulebook and I found that as filler in box of miscellaneous items, right along the copy of Star Frontiers: Alpha Dawn. I only have the basic and advanced rulebooks, not boxed set, but it was a best time as any to roll up a Star Frontiers character.

Mandatory Basketball Rant - Winter 2022-23 - Week 6
The temperatures continue to be above normal, the sun is out almost everyday, yet when am I feeling the winter doldrums. Perhaps it is the realization, not that the girls teams are invincible in any way, but rather parent's delusions on the invincibility of their kids, and the fallibility of others.
Maja: Monday's game against Hazleton was there toughest game of the season thus far... for three quarters. Three quarters of play had Hazleton only up by 4. The problem, the first quarter before those three was a 22-6 blowout for Hazleton. 0-16 from the field, not rebounding, and despite everyone knowing the M.O. of their shooting guard, let her sit unmolested under the their basket while folks were scrumming for rebounds. Once won, the ball was chucked downcourt for an easy lay-up
Over
and over
and over again.
Add that she was also at least 5 of 7 from beyond the arc, it was a learning experience to be positive, the butt-kicking they needed to be a bit more negative.
And with a twenty-point loss, all the happiness and kumbaya emotions of some of the parents at the team's holiday get-together evaporated within seconds of the final buzzer. Calls for the heads of the head of the program, the Athletic Director, even folks who know nothing about basketball. A lot a heat-of-the-moment very erroneous statements were made, and I did my best to put some of parents back in their place.
I was going to go on a rant here about competition and the lack of it during our classification, but being the research guy I am I looked up a few things and discovered (a) Maja's team is probably the third best at their level the the district (out of 12 districts in Pennsylvania and (b) Their enrollment moved them up a classification for the playoffs. Basically the fall league we played in Scranton is the gauntlet they'll need to go through for Districts, then States, unless their population of females in the high school drops by about thirty schools. Oddly Hazleton is not in our class, but 6A, the largest schools there are.
All that in the past, I rushed to pick up my car from the auto shop to make the nearly hour drive to Berwick. Not too surprisingly, they started off aggressive, but still a bit flat with their shot selections. Of course, the Berwick point guard plays on the same AAU team, a grade between Maja and Millie, and here shooting was lights out. In fact, she scored all the team's points in the first quarter and tied the game at the buzzer.
By halftime, Maja's team took control and slowly pulled away to an 18-point victory.
The girls are off from school Monday, but have a much anticipated game against last year's toughest opponent, Dallas. Most of the Freshmen girls from the team last year are destroying it as Varsity starters, so I anticipate a little easier time against the next wave (I have my reliable sources).
Millie: I made the mistake of mentioning the 7th and 8th grade girls to Millie local team coaches. Their jaws dropped in disbelief when I told them the starters, and the the team was (spoilers) .500 at bath 7th and 8th. Now I have always assumed the 6th grade bunch will take the world by storm in five months when they're eligible for school ball. I'm also a realist and team builder who knows that 25-50% of the girls will probably quit, and no team in their right minds fields one with under ten.
They played the worst team in the whole league (who is getting better each week), and easily won 32-6. Unfortunately only one player shot over 50% (and the team's big barely made it over that) and everyone not named Millie missed more foul shots than they made (Millie was 1-for-1, Rest of team was 1-for 8). Luckily they outrebounded the team 2-to-1, and that might be good enough at this grade, but when they play up, they'll be just as inadequate as the girls the coaches scoffed at.
Try as I do not like the crazy driving and bending of rules for Millie's Wolfpack team, everyone enjoys playing with each other, Millie isn't the only one passing to the weaker girls, and while the other team's aren't laughing, the Wolfpack girls are enjoying every minute.
An hour and ten minute drive to Minersville to see them demolish a new team 49-11 had all those elements, plus Millie hitting a 3-pointer and doing and amusing dance afterwards.
| I got the shot, but not the dance. 'Twas quite amusing. |
(Brutal Quest) Balor Redstaff - Human Wizard - #Character Creation Challenge
As I continue to delve into Brutal Quest for filler days for the #CharacterCreationChallenge, I am starting to appreciate the few 15mm fantasy figures I've acquired from my orders to Battle Valor Games. Smaller figs, quicker paintjobs, and I can retain the movement and shooting ranges for faster feeling games.
The big dude coming out of my Brutal Quest runs will be a wizard, Balor Redstaff specifically.
