I had enough childhood influences that made transitioning to wargaming plausible. Tons of books on war, and war movies on Saturday afternoon. My grandfather's train set was my pinnacle, although I did plenty of role-playing with the HO-layout in my own basement. Plenty of green army men and Britains.
There was also my Uncle Geoff, who was a master modeler of all sorts of kits. I only saw flashes of his hobby room when I was a kid, but when he came up to visit years ago, right when I was doing my Tanga Campaign in the garage. He had a lot questions, and we shared a lot of notes, drinking excellent beer.
He passed away a few years after. My aunt relocated to Pittsburgh to be closer to her kids, but she still brought him with her. No, not a classy urn, just the hundreds of model kits from the hobby room. Many of the smaller kits got donated, but she reached out to me a few weeks ago to help her get rid of the rest, a few kits at a time.
The first wave I've received are your classic Snap-Tite car kits from the 80s....
So many ships. Just started doing research, but these ladies are fetching $100-150 apiece when I find them.
