Day 5 and I'm completely phoning this in. Thirty-one days is a LOT of characters.
So let's not talk about a brand new character. Let's talk about a character I've been "creating" for 30+ years,
Let's talk about me.
No, not the fat middle aged dude, but me as a GURPS character, circa 1990.
I think everybody who owns GURPS eventually stats themselves out, and I had a bright idea of running a Red Dawn style game in my hometown, with my friends playing themselves.
The only thing more ridiculous than picturing your head on the body of your D&D character (We all did it at some point), is statting out 100 point characters for 15-year old boys. And let's not talk about the sniper rifle I (as a 100 point NPC "contact") somehow acquired for them. The end result for those early scenarios was quite... messy.
A few sessions into Red Dawn, I devolved into sci-fi and horror tropes, and pretty soon any remnant of the campaign devolved into a yearly televised gladiator battle from the city's parking garage, but I still had a character of myself.
I was also at the age where I kept a dream journal, for all the zany, fantastical, and even mundane stuff I imagined while asleep. At some point in my early twenties, I decided to stop the journal in form, but I used those as experiences to give my GURPS version character points.
Fast forward 25 years, now if I have an interesting dream I can remember, I break it down to usually half or full character points towards an appropriate (if it's even applicable). Once a year I enter the tally the character sheet and update the skills, advantages, and disadvantages.
More a decade ago, I looked at my stats, remembered a lot of my action dream sequences, and realized my GURPS alter ego was Tom Arnold's character from True Lies, Albert "Gib" Gibson.
Since then my mid-level management material FBI/Spy Agency guy has been moving up the ladder, getting a comfy office where he makes guys go out in the field to hang off helicopters or get leg cramps sitting in spy vans too long. No matter what, he's definitely not a min/maxed character!ST: 10 DX: 11 IQ: 13 HT: 12
Advantages: Charisma +2 (I'm a heckuva guy), Common Sense, Luck, Voice, Light Hangover (50)
Disadvantages: Bloodlust, Nearsighted (corrected), Gluttony, Stubbornness, Sense of Duty (Friends). Enemy: The Mormons (earned "in-game" no points), Dependents: Family (earned "in-game" no points)
Skills: Skills in bold received points in this past year's update, but not increase in stat number. Bold with a (+) indicates an increase in skill. New skills to the list for this year are in bold with (New). Not exactly rocket science, but it always trips me up.
